Picard pleaded guilty last August to smuggling marijuana across the border between 2005 and 2007. Prosecutors say Picard and his network of drug runners delivered 100 to 135 pounds of pot each week to distributors in Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and North Carolina.

At least five other people involved in the scheme have been charged or sentenced.

According to the Bangor Daily News, Picard's attorney said his client became involved in the scheme because he was addicted to money and greed.
