56-year-old Canadian man is accused of importing cocaine into Australia that was hidden in forklift batteries.Australian Federal Police say the man was arrested in Sydney Friday for allegedly importing 10 kilograms of cocaine into the country.
Police say customs officers at Sydney's Port Botany container examination facility found the cocaine hidden inside forklift batteries as they inspected a consignment from Mexico on Dec. 22.They say the drugs were destined for an address in Moorebank, New South Wales.The man is charged with importing and attempting to possess a commercial quantity of a border controlled drug.The maximum penalty if he is convicted is life imprisonment and/or a $693,000 fine.
